Captain Pete's

Seafood • Miami

★★★★★ 4.7 / 5.0

About

A ramshackle dock bar in Key Largo where the fish was swimming that morning. Captain Pete himself still takes the boat out at 4 AM. The fish tacos are transcendent, the conch fritters are loaded with actual conch, and you eat everything on a paper plate at a picnic table overlooking the water.

The Freshest Fish You'll Ever Eat

There is no pretension at Captain Pete's. There are no tablecloths, no cocktail menu, no Instagram moments. There is, however, the freshest fish you will eat in your life, because Captain Pete was pulling it out of the water six hours before you ate it.

The fish tacos — grilled mahi on a corn tortilla with cabbage slaw, lime crema, and habanero hot sauce — are transcendent. Not good-for-a-dock-bar good. Actually, objectively, all-things-considered transcendent.

The conch fritters are loaded with conch (a rarity — most places pad them with batter) and fried to golden perfection. The key lime pie is tart, sweet, and comes on a paper plate. Eat it overlooking the water, watch the pelicans dive, and remember that this is why food exists.
