Mariscos Playa

Latin Seafood • Miami

★★★★☆ 4.4 / 5.0

About

A lively Calle Ocho seafood spot that blends Cuban, Peruvian, and Mexican coastal traditions. The aguachile is electric with habanero, the fried whole red snapper feeds two easily, and the ceviche de conchas negras is unlike anything else in Miami. Live music on weekends.

Calle Ocho's Best-Kept Secret

Mariscos Playa is the kind of place that doesn't show up on tourist guides, and the regulars like it that way. The aguachile is incendiary — shrimp cured in lime and habanero, served with cucumber and red onion on a tostada. It wakes up every taste bud you have.

The fried whole red snapper is magnificent — crispy skin, moist flesh, served with rice, beans, and fried plantains. It's a feast for two, and at this price point, it's borderline charitable.

The ceviche de conchas negras (black clam ceviche) is a Peruvian specialty that I've rarely seen done this well outside of Lima. The black clams have a distinctive, briny sweetness that regular ceviche can't match. Come on a Friday or Saturday night for live music, and bring your dancing shoes.
